Open Call for Poetry Submissions Book No.20 (New Series):
The Stony Thursday Book is seeking submissions from local, national and international poets for its next issue, to be published in Autumn/Winter 2024.
The Stony Thursday Book was founded by Limerick poets John Liddy and Jim Burke in 1975, and has been edited by poets such as Mark Whelan, Kevin Byrne, Patrick Bourke, Knute Skinner, Thomas McCarthy, Ciarán O’Driscoll, Mary Coll, Jo Slade, Paddy Bushe, Peter Sirr, Mary O’Donnell, John Davies, Nessa O’Mahony, Martin Dyar, Annemarie Ní Churreáin, and Christodoulos Makris.
The Stony Thursday Book is one of the longest-running literary journals in Ireland and this will be its 46th edition, No.20 in the new series.
This year's Editor of the Stony Thursday Poetry Book is poet and writer Victoria Kennefick.
Victoria Kennefick's debut collection, Eat or We Both Starve (Carcanet Press, 2021), won the Seamus Heaney First Collection Poetry Prize and the Dalkey Book Festival Emerging Writer of the Year Award. It was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize, the Costa Poetry Book Award, Derek Walcott Prize for Poetry and the Butler Literary Prize. A UCD/Arts Council of Ireland Writer-in-Residence 2023 and Poet-in-Residence at the Yeats Society Sligo 2022-2023, Victoria is now Cork County Council Writer-in-Residence 2024. Her second collection, Egg/Shell (Carcanet Press, 2024) was a PBS Choice for Spring 2024.
Guidelines:
· Each poet should submit up to 3 poems.
· All work should be submitted in .doc or .pdf – we recommend using .pdf to maintain poetry layout and formatting.
· Submitted poems must not be previously published or currently pending publication.
· Each poet should include a short bio (max 50 words).
· Submissions are accepted from local, national and international poets.
· Texts in other languages are welcome, as long as they are accompanied with English translations.
Closing date for receipt of poetry submissions has been extended until 5pm, Monday 22nd July 2024.
