Open Call for Poetry Submissions Book No.21 (New Series):
The Stony Thursday Book is seeking submissions from local, national and international poets for its next issue, to be published in Winter 2025.
The Stony Thursday Book was founded by Limerick poets John Liddy and Jim Burke in 1975, and has been edited by poets such as Mark Whelan, Kevin Byrne, Patrick Bourke, Knute Skinner, Thomas McCarthy, Ciarán O’Driscoll, Mary Coll, Jo Slade, Paddy Bushe, Peter Sirr, Mary O’Donnell, John Davies, Nessa O’Mahony, Martin Dyar, Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Christodoulos Makris, and Victoria Kennefick.
The Stony Thursday Book is one of the longest-running literary journals in Ireland and this will be its 47th edition, No.21 in the new series. This year marks the 50th Anniversary since the founding of the Stony Thursday Book, so in recognition of this we have invited the founding poets John Liddy and Jim Burke to be joint editors of this year's edition of the book.
John Liddy has published many books of Poetry with Revival Press, Limerick, Ireland, including his most recent Arias of Consolation (2021/22); Slipstreaming in the West of Ireland (with Jim Burke, 2024), and a collection of short stories Two in One (with Liam Liddy, 2024). Huerga y Fierro (Madrid) will soon publish Spanish Points, a bilingual collection of his Spanish-related poems.
Jim Burke’s haiku feature in ‘Between the Leaves: New Haiku Writing from Ireland’, Arlen House (2016). ‘Quartet’ with Mary Scheurer, Peter Wise and Carolyn Zukowski (2019) ‘Montage’ Literary Bohemian Press (2021) ‘Slipstreaming in the West of Ireland’ (with John Liddy), Revival Press (2024).
Guidelines:
· Each poet should submit up to 3 poems.
· All work should be submitted in .doc or .pdf – we recommend using .pdf to maintain poetry layout and formatting.
· Submitted poems must not be previously published or currently pending publication.
· Each poet should include a short bio (max 50 words).
· Submissions are accepted from local, national and international poets.
· Texts in other languages are welcome, if poets wish to send an accompanying English translation they may.
Closing date for receipt of poetry submissions is 5pm Monday 2nd June 2025.
